嶺南大學文化研究系聲明（關於警方拘捕七一預演佔中示威者） Jul 3rd 2014, 10:04, by 獨媒轉載 嶺南大學文化研究系聲明 A Statement from the Department of Cultural Studies, Lingnan University 我們學系的一些學生和畢業生，參與了七月一日爭普選大遊行後在中環的和平靜坐，被警方拘捕。 Several students and graduates of our department, after participating in the sit-in in Central on July 1, were arrested by the police. 這些學生(和畢業生)是勇於承擔、關心社會、做事認真的磊落青年，在平靜的學習環境中好學慎思、溫和友愛。然而，面對香港當下的管治困境和政治危機，他們選擇離開寧靜的校園，甘冒風險，押上前途，篤行於社會前線，實踐非暴力公民抗命，為的絕非個人私心或利益，而是全體香港人的價值和願景。身為師長，我們為過去未能爭取到更平等民主公義的社會環境、讓他們能夠安心唸書求學而慚愧，同時，我們也為大學能有這樣無私無畏的學生，感到驕傲。 These students (and graduates) are responsible, audacious and conscientious young people. In ordinary university days they are eager to learn and think, they are friendly and gentle. Yet facing the political and governance crisis in Hong Kong today, they have chosen to leave the tranquility of campus life, risk their future and commit to walk the frontline in society to take up civil disobedience for justice. The driving force is certainly not self-interest, but about Hong Kong people's value and vision. As their teachers, we regret that we have not been able to give them a more equitable, democratic and just social environment to focus on their studies. At the same time, we are very proud that our university has nurtured these students who defy self-interest and fear. 作為教育工作者，我們認為，把青年學生與支持他们從容抗命的示威者拘捕、檢控，絕對無助香港的長治久安，只會打擊青年勇於承擔、關心社會、做事認真的磊落品格。這樣的結果，恐怕是所有真心關顧香港前途、珍惜下一代的香港人所不樂見的。 As educators, we believe that arresting and prosecuting these students and other peaceful demonstrators will in no way help maintain Hong Kong's stability and prosperity. Instead, this will only undermine the nurturing of our younger generation's social responsibility, audacity and commitment. We believe, and people who truly care about the future of Hong Kong and our next generation will agree, that this is the last thing we want to see happen. 青年為了社會大義以非暴力形式發聲，絕對值得大家守護。為此，我們要求香港特區政府： We all should support and defend our young people who speak up for social justice in a peaceful manner.
